Feisty, Fierce & For You: Your Next Houston Solo Date Starts Here

A Solo Date at Feisty Design Collective

A Radical Form of Self-Care

Taking yourself on a date is one of the most radical forms of self-care. It’s a bold little love letter to your inner world. No permission needed. No performance required. Just presence, joy, and the willingness to choose yourself, again and again.

If you’re ready to romanticize your solo time with something creative, colorful, and unapologetically affirming, I’ve got just the place. Feisty Design Collective in Houston is your next must-visit stop.

A Colorful Daydream

When I first stepped inside, it felt like walking into a colorful daydream brought to life. Bubbly energy. Cozy corners. Bold designs. And the kindest souls ready to greet you like you belong there. As founder Kris Owens describes it, “When customers walk into our shop, they’re stepping into an experience that feels vibrant, welcoming, and personal.”

Rooted in Healing

Feisty was born during one of the most painful chapters of Kris’s life. “Feisty Design Company was born out of sadness and trauma,” she shared. “I started creating images that expressed how I was feeling and healed my soul.” What began as personal healing is now a full-blown creative collective rooted in resilience, self-expression, and chosen community.

Today, the space offers more than handcrafted goods. It’s a soft place to land. A space to reconnect. A place where your individuality is not only accepted, it’s celebrated. “Our products and events encourage people to discover new interests and feel part of a collective that values creativity and individuality,” Kris says. “We aim to make The Feisty Collective feel like a place where people find not only unique products or fun activities but a sense of belonging.”

Choose Yourself

Personally, I’m a sucker for a wandering solo date. The kind where I float around the city like a soft lil fairy just chasing color and comfort. Dromgoole’s, Texas Art Supply, Daiso, Paper Source—I could spend hours picking out pens I don’t need but definitely need. Feisty felt like a missing puzzle piece in my self-love ritual. Whimsical. Welcoming. Woven with magic.

It’s the kind of space that gently encourages you to try something new. To follow what lights you up. Even when you’re nervous. Even when doubt whispers.

Because:

It’s okay to do things that are new and different, even if they feel a little scary.

It’s okay to follow your joy, even when it shows up with shaky hands.

Tam Kaur, in Buy Yourself the Damn Flowers, writes,

“The only person you’ll ever have a guaranteed forever with is yourself. Date her. Discover her. Devote time to her.”

This is what solo dates are about. Not waiting for someone else to choose you. But actively choosing yourself. Right now. As you are.

Inclusive by Design

Feisty Design Collective is proudly woman-owned, queer-friendly, and deeply inclusive. “Empowering queer humans and fostering community are at the heart of The Feisty Collective’s mission,” Kris says. “We strive to create a supportive environment where people feel seen, heard, and valued.”

The shop’s energy is woven from Houston’s own heartbeat. “Houston’s vibrant culture and diverse community are huge influences on our aesthetic,” Kris shares. “We want the space to reflect that energy. Welcoming people from all walks of life and celebrating individuality.”

Make It a Full Field Trip

Wanna stretch your solo day into a full-on self-love field trip? Kris recommends:

Moon Rabbit (the Shaken Beef salad and garlic soy wings are chef’s kiss)

Electric Love for a “treat yo self” lingerie or rave-ready treasure

Smash Therapy in Spring for playlist-powered catharsis

Obscure Houston Oddities Market for magical, weird, wonderful vendor vibes

A Final Reminder

Tam also reminds us,

“You can be soft and still be enough. You can be healing and still be whole. You can be alone and still be loved.”

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to take up space, this is it. You don’t need a reason to show up for yourself. So take yourself out. Touch the pretty things. Pick the brightest colors. Take your time. Because the most important relationship in your life is the one you nurture with you.
