For me, Presence is the whole point.
there was a moment, somewhere in the middle of trying to get everything “right,” that I realized I had quietly stopped being in my own life. not in a dramatic way, just in small, almost invisible patterns. waiting to feel confident before wearing the outfit. waiting to feel ready before taking the photo. waiting to feel “better” before letting myself be seen. and in that waiting, I was missing it.
I think a lot of us were taught that life is something you arrive to. that there’s a version of you who is more healed, more confident, more put together, and then you get to enjoy it. but that version of you isn’t the starting point. it’s the byproduct. and the only way you meet her is by being here now.
presence is the whole point. not perfection. not performance. not optimization. presence. the feeling of actually being inside your own life while it’s happening.
for me, this started to shift when I stopped asking “how do I look?” and started asking “how does this feel?” does this feel like me. does this feel alive. does this feel like something I’ll want to remember. not because it was perfect, but because it was mine.
romanticizing your life isn’t about pretending everything is beautiful. it’s about deciding that your life is worth experiencing as it is. it’s choosing to participate, even when you don’t feel fully ready, even when your body isn’t where you think it should be, even when the moment isn’t content-worthy. it’s wearing the outfit anyway. taking the photo anyway. getting in the water anyway. not for proof, not for validation, but because you are allowed to live your life while you’re in it.
I see this most clearly when I’m photographing people. there’s a shift that happens when someone stops trying to get it “right” and just starts being. everything softens. the images stop feeling curated and start feeling real. not performed. not constructed. just honest.
you don’t need to become someone else to be worthy of being seen. you don’t need to fix everything before you start showing up. you are allowed to exist as you are, in this version of your life.
this is the quiet reminder underneath all of it. you’re not behind. you’re not late. you’re not missing it. unless you keep waiting.
don’t forget presence is the whole point.
